Hidalgo Coin Club Est. 1960 · McAllen, Texas
About the club

Established 1960, and still meeting the second Monday of every month.

01 — History

An international club at the southern tip of Texas

The Hidalgo Coin Club was established in 1960 and is the oldest coin club in the Rio Grande Valley. It has had many meeting locations since, and today gathers in the Conference Room of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. The club covers District 14 of the Texas Numismatic Association — ten counties and South Padre Island.

Membership spans the Valley, Mexico, and the northern states. Several members cross the border each month to attend meetings and shows, making this an international coin club. From November through March the club swells with the arrival of collecting friends who spend the winter in the Valley — the Winter Texans.

Beyond the monthly meeting, the club sponsors two coin shows a year, a monthly Friday Night Coin Show with guest presenters, a lending numismatic library, and an annual awards banquet each December. The club celebrated its 50th anniversary on December 16, 2010.
